Our collections
While the State Museum itself was founded in the 19th century, its core collection – the “Kunstkammer” (art chamber) of the Württemberg dukes – goes back to the 16th century. Over the years, the dukes collected everything they found rare, precious and unusual.
Nowadays the collections of the Württemberg State Museum are made up of holdings from various fields of museology: archaeology, art history, cultural history and folklore. The museum offers an excursion through the history of humanity, with a special focus on the history of the state of Württemberg. The archaeological history of our state, medieval art, the Württemberg crown treasure, and even every-day life in urban and rural environments – there's a lot to discover at the Württemberg State Museum, and not only in Stuttgart and Waldenbuch!
