We are making big changes!Dürnitz Hall. A new cultural lobby for the Old Castle
The State Museum team is continuously working to meet the needs of a modern museum. A museum should be more than just an exhibition space. In order to continue to satisfy the high demands of a cultural centre, the museum foyer, Dürnitz Hall, is being redesigned. In the Middle Ages, this 1,000 m² hall was already the heart of the Old Castle; it served as a heated community meeting place and dining hall for occasions when the entire court was assembled. Today we want to continue this tradition and develop Dürnitz Hall from a traditional museum foyer to a “third place”.
The museum as an event location
With the renovation, the Württemberg State Museum will become a modern special attraction, a venue for a wide range of events. After modernization, Dürnitz Hall will have space for up to 500 guests. A retractable stage with state-of-the-art audio and lighting technology will make it an attractive location in the very centre of the state capital.
A feel-good kind of place
A lounge area with comfortable sofas, armchairs and a modern café – and of course free Wi-Fi – will invite you to linger and enjoy. The central information counter with the museum-relevant media, the extensive cloakroom areas with baby buggies and wheelchairs for hire and a professional guidance system will provide all the basic conditions for a pleasant and eventful museum visit.
